Zigzag Loopback Threading Method 12

The “Zigzag Loopback” lacing method combines a zigzag pattern with a sturdy loopback technique, adding both functionality and visual interest to your shoes. Ideal for shoes with 5, 7, or 9 holes, this technique provides a secure fit with a striking look. Follow the steps below to properly apply this method to your shoes.

Step 1

Place the shoe with the toe towards you. Insert both lace ends from the inside out through the bottom eyelets, so that a straight line is created and the ends end on one side of the shoe.

Step 1 of the Zigzag Loopback lacing method, both lace ends are threaded from the inside out through the bottom eyelets.

Step 2

Take the left lace end and thread it from the outside in through the eyelet directly above the eyelet the lace came from. This will create a small loop on the outside of the shoe.

Step 2 of the Zigzag Loopback lacing method, the left lace end is threaded from the outside in through the eyelet directly above the previous one.

Step 3

Take the same lace and put it on the other side of the shoe from the inside out. Then put the lace back from the outside in through the eyelet directly above the previous one. This creates a zigzag pattern.

Step 3 of the Zigzag Loopback lacing method, the lace is laced from the inside out and again from the outside in to create a zigzag pattern.

Step 4

Repeat this process, threading the lace from the outside in through the eyelets on one side and then from the inside out on the other side. Continue creating the zigzag pattern.

Step 4 of the Zigzag Loopback lacing method, the zigzag pattern is further built up by lacing the laces from the outside in and from the inside out.

Step 5

Continue this pattern until you have one free eyelet left at the top of the shoe. This ensures that the zigzag pattern is clearly visible and the laces are secured.

Step 5 of the Zigzag Loopback lacing method, the zigzag pattern is almost complete, with one free eyelet left at the top of the shoe.

Step 6

Now you start a new pattern. Take the lace at the bottom and put it diagonally through the slot you created with the other lace, from the bottom. This forms the basis for the loopback technique.

Step 6 of the Zigzag Loopback lacing method, the lace is threaded diagonally through the slot for the loopback technique.

Step 7

Now continue zigzagging to the other side of the shoe and then back again. This provides extra stability and creates a complex pattern on the outside of the shoe.

Step 7 of the Zigzag Loopback lacing method, the laces are laced in a zigzag pattern to the other side of the shoe.

Step 8

Repeat this pattern until you have one eyelet left at the top of the shoe. This will ensure that the loopback pattern fits nicely with the zigzag pattern.

Step 8 of the Zigzag Loopback beading method, the loopback pattern is repeated until there is only one eye left.

Step 9

Thread the lace ends through the last eyelet from the outside in. Now your "Zigzag Loopback" lacing method is complete! For the final steps, you can tie your laces in any way you like, depending on whether or not you are using elastic laces. Check out our tutorials page for instructions on the different types of closures.

Step 9 of the Zigzag Loopback lacing method, the lace ends are threaded through the last eyelet from the outside in to complete the method.

Finishing for elastic laces

For elastic laces, use a twist cap to secure the ends. More information about the different types of lace closures can be found on our website.
